Wetsuit Care & Repair
Wetsuits - especially top end ones - are made of very thin neoprene, which is designed to help you swim fast, but not to be bullet proof.
Essential Wetsuit Care
You should be very careful taking the suit off and even putting it on. Avoid having long finger nails (sorry girls!) as this is the most common way to tear a suit. If you do tear your suit then don’t worry. A few small tears are normal and will not slow you down. If you have a big tear which lets in water then you may well have to send it back to the manufacturer for repair.
Wetsuits
When using the wetsuit, always use ‘body glide’ underneath the suit as this will help it come off more easily and without tearing. Avoid using Vaseline and similar products, as this can lead to deterioration of the suit material.
Drying & Storing Your Wetsuit
Having finished training or racing in the suit, make sure you wash it out in fresh, cold water to remove any chlorine or salt water, as these will eat away at the suit if not washed off.
Finally, to dry your wetsuit out, don’t hang it on a clothes hanger, as this will misshape the shoulders. Simply hang it on a clothes line and then store it away lying flat.
