Getting the right pair of running shoes is important, and there is a lot to consider. Does your foot roll inwards or are you fairly neutral? It is also very wise to have a heavier, more supportive pair for training miles and a lightweight pair for racing.
At Nice2Tri we have divided the shoes in to categories. Cushioned trainers are for the neutral runner with few instability issues. A good cushioned trainer is perfect for training and essential for the long miles. Support trainers offer protection against pronation (when the foot collapses inwards). Control trainers have high stability features, also featuring pronation control. Racing shoes are stripped down to the bare essentials and as such are incredibly lightweight, whilst Off-road trainers offer durability and increased traction.
