Richard Allen 10th in Bermuda – Race Report

"This was my first race back in action after a 2 year period of retirement and total rest. With 2 months of light training and 2 months of fairly normal training under my belt, I just wanted to test myself to see if it really was going to be realistic making a full comeback. I knew before the race I was not in great shape – of course not with only a few months of training. But I would know what I needed to do over the winter to be back at the top."

Catch up with Richard Allen Back on the Course - "To sum up July’s month of racing, I had 2 really pleasing races at the beginning. Firstly was the Blenheim triathlon – this is a sprint race in the grounds of Blenheim Palace. I did this race last year, as it was the junior national championships."

The Highs & Lows - "I have had quite a horrid time racing of late after becoming ill following my 4th at the Yorkshire RR Championships at the beginning of June. I had to take nearly a complete week off training, and in my haste to try and recoup some of the training time lost I put in a quite hard 32h training week to try and prepare myself for the National RR Champs which were held in Hemsley, about 25 miles away from where I live."

It may take you a year to take 1 minute off your swim split, and you’ll probably work hard at trying to achieve this. Few people work hard at trying to improve their transitions, and it is relatively easy to take this amount of time off with just a small amount of practice and visualisation.
