Richard Allen’s Comeback Training Blog- October

I have been at my training base in Florida for a week now and am enjoying the beautiful weather and relaxed atmosphere! October has been a really great month of training for me. Training has progressed so that I am now doing what I consider to be normal professional training. This includes 4 swims, 4-5 bikes and 4-5 runs. Th early high intensity sessions have now been supplemented with longer, easy training and I am feeling good. I certainly feel that I am in better swim shape than ever before and am feeling strong on the bike. The running has not bee 100% perfect as I picked up a bit of an injury in the arch of my foot. I had to cut back on the long runs and high intensity sessions but managed to maintain fitness with shorter runs. Anyway we will find out this weekend in Bermuda as I have my first pro race in 2 years! It’s a World Class field so I will really be able to compare my fitness against the best. It will be interesting as bare in mind I have done no real training in nearly 2 years and have only been back in training for a few months! Maybe I will get my ass kicked, maybe not! But at least I will know what I have to work on over the winter. Oh yes, there is one other small problem! I don’t have a bike!! I have been working on a prototype frame with Nice2Tri and I had the frame with plenty of time, however I have not been able to secure all the parts for it and am stuck out here in Florida at my training base with a part build bike! Lucky for me the race organisers have secured me a bike in Bermuda and I will have to borrow this. Not ideal at all but it will have to do. Hope it fits! So watch this space.. Race report to follow soon!
