Nice2Tri.com Athlete CrashesBritish triathlete Mark Shipton saw his dreams of breaking the hour mark around the 2012 olympic rowing venue dorney lake ended by a pile-up in the cycling stage of his first race of the season. Shipton, 34, left the course immediately saying he was “distraught” about the incident which wrecked his sub hour dream. He had been prevented from remounting his bike, due to injuries and a flat tire. As it was he suffered a bruised shoulder and grazes to both hands and face. Marks Wife Joanna said: “I’m just very frustrated for Mark. He was lying in second place and on for 57 minutes. “But sometimes you can’t avoid crashes. He’s distraught because he expected to finish at least top three.”
