The Ultra-Violet Protection factor is a scale developed by the Australian Radiation Laboratory in conjunction with a number of cancer council to rate UVR protection fabrics. UPF is directly comparable to SPF in sunscreens in that UPF50 can provide the skin with 50 times the protection against UVR compared to unprotected skin.

Exposure of the skin to solar radiation can lead to the development of skin cancer and cataracts. When exposed to UVR whilst swimming it is recommended that you cover your body with swimwear, wear goggles, cap and use sunscreens that provide the appropriate level of protection.
